Influence the atmosphere around you

Great leaders are environment ‘influencers’! They do not conform to their surroundings in which they find themselves.

In the Gospel of Mark 5:1–7 we see Jesus demonstrating that role. (NASB95) 1 They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes. 2 When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him, 3 and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain; 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones. 6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; 7 and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!” Mark 5:15 (NASB95) 15 They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the “legion”; and they became frightened.

The moment Jesus stepped upon the land a ripple went through the region and the spirits knew He arrived. The catalyst caused freedom to come to a man filled with torment.

Great leaders keep the attitude of discovery before them as they lead. Continue reading “Influence the atmosphere around you”

Tap into your genesis moment

Tap into your genesis moment

Leaders need a ‘genesis moment.’ This moment unlocks the door for new beginnings. It unleashes what I call a ‘genesis movement.’ When it’s taken hold of, the moment transforms into a movement.

Leaders that no longer have heart, or have settled into mediocrity, will usually recycle everything with a dysfunctional twist. It’s key that old thoughts, actions, and plans do not become recycled with a new paint job. Rather seize a fresh, anything-is-possible, exciting mindset.

I’m too busy!

Pastors are busy! The priority of raising up the ministry and leaders can find itself placed on a back burner. It becomes another issue requiring attention. Some leaders like keeping the circle of authority small for control purposes. Fear drives that mindset; it is not kingdom-minded. Others say they do not have the time.  They need to delegate; these things consume their time.clock-2057401_1280 Continue reading “I’m too busy!”

Living above negative criticism!

Effective leaders are visionaries who take people towards a destination.

This requires taking a risk to move toward what they envision. Critics will rise and attempt to stop or impede any forward movement.

Critics come from 2 camps. First camp: most critics that emerge have no authority or jurisdiction to make any judgments at all; or cannot offer viable solutions. (Opinions are not necessarily solutions.) As these people have no responsibility to make something succeed, leaders must shut out this avenue of criticism. 2nd camp: Peers or ‘wannabes’. A leader should ask, “Is their criticism based on a truth? Does it stem from jealously or do they want to exert control over people?”
